JP's words, clearly highlight his thorough understanding of people's problems. History is one of the greatest teachers, America's attempt at probation and the raise of Mafia; is a great example. Idealistic solutions are not always the correct ones. Loksatta has yet to give a clearly charted approach to social issues like liquor consumption. They are probably the most suited ones to do so.
The most ironic fact is that the ad is shown in a paper which led a revolution for prohibition and the govt. and later couldn't (or didn't) pursue the cause with the same zeal. The public needs people who are committed to the public cause, Loksatta needs to don the role of a umbrella for such aspirants and not fall into the trap of hero-worship. JP may the mascot, but I would really like to see independent candidates enacting their freewill.
As of now, I have no choice but support Loksatta. My only regret is that there is no one else, to make my choice difficult. I wish we had more like JP. Lack of choice is a bad indicator of democratic health.
just a correction: it is not the German bank, but the German intelligent service who got the details of the Indian tax evaders who had their money in some banks in Liechtenstein, a small nation adjacent to Germany... German intelligent service got these details while investigating for their own tax evaders...
