Debate on 3-language system uncalled for: Jayaprakash Narayan

The founder president of Loksatta Party Jayaprakash Narayan opined that the BJP government had unnecessarily raised the issue of three-language system, diverting attention from debate on quality education.

Baghlingampally: The founder president of Loksatta Party Jayaprakash Narayan opined that the BJP government had unnecessarily raised the issue of three-language system, diverting attention from debate on quality education. He was speaking at a round-table on National Education Policy 2019, organised by MV Foundation, here at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram.

Speaking on the occasion, Jayaprakash Narayan expressed his concern over lack of quality education in Telugu states despite heavy spending by the governments. Telugu states spend nearly Rs 14,000 crore on education, Rs 70,000 per each student, but quality of the education remains abysmal, he lamented. Expressing his angst at mass copying which is still prevalent in 95 per cent of schools in Telugu states, he said poor students are being deprived of quality education due to such malpractices.

Allocating 25 per cent of seats to poor students could not be a lone solution for the proper implementation of Right to Education Act, he said. "It is unfortunate that not even a single political leader discussed issues in education system during their election campaign," he said. Jayaprakash urged governments to take necessary measures to improve education standards. He said that teachers are focused more on the integrated service rules rather than on imparting quality education.

National convener of MV Foundation R Venkat Reddy said that governments have failed miserably in providing quality education. Ruling parties change but the education standards remained same, he said.

IAS officer A Murali gave a Powerpoint presentation on the state of education. President of Telangana Parents Association N Narayana, JVV president Professor Adhinarayana, representative of Action Aid Vara Prasad and others participated in the discussion.
