  1. Wrong analysis by loksatta. Its is definitely going to be a great blow to small business people as the power of the Multinational companies is great all over, ultimately they are going to direct the business world according to their needs as they get things cheaper because they buy in bulk and will have lot storage capacities than the small business owners compared to. Same thing happened here in america after the estabilishment of Walmart, all the small business owners lost their business of this reason only.
To our country it is not a good investment, it is going to kill lot of self employment and going to create a greater income gap between people.

  2. Why every one is thinking of foreign investment in everything, don't we find investment from 1.2 billion of our countrymen.Don't we have rich people in our country.

  3. Dr.JP don't compare computerization of banks with the retail business, that is using technology in the public institutions to make things faster as we use cell phones for our better convenience now in 2000's as we used to use in 1970's that's an improvement in living standards, but small business is the life of many people in small towns, small cities which creates/creating enormous employment and reducing dependency for government employment. People don't kill this self employment and make people as dependent workers of large multi national companies with mininum wages.

  4. Same thing happened during british rule, it killed small handicraftsmen like cotton weavers and made indians depended on foreign cloth which inturn made lot of people poor because they lost self employment. The great reason for making charaka as his symbol for independence movement and boycotting, burning of foreign cloth was the reason for taken by Mahatma Gandhi to revive small scale industries that died during that time.

  5. JP is exactly right on FDI in our retail and we easily understand this If we are with open mind & think comprehensively. Lok Satta is not a party with bourgeois ideology. It won't say that a weaver's son/dauther should be a weaver. He/She should be given quality education, health care, employment skills freely and should be given freedom to choose his way of living competing with anyone in this world. This is not impossible if we change the agenda, nature of politics. If we understand this new politics for new generation for second freedom movement, we spontaneously support Lok Satta's point on FDI without any confusion.

  6. Let us also focus on some advantages:
    1) Cheaper products for everyone. Poor people will be able to afford cheaper food and clothing.
    2) Farmers will have better access to markets.
    3) Retail industry is the big employer. Lot of employment opportunities.
