Genuine leader Modi can alone revive economy and provide jobs to youth: Dr. JP

Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said today he has decided to extend support to BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi because he is committed to providing jobs to youth by reviving the manufacturing sector and ensuring good governance.

The UPA Government has squandered a golden opportunity given to it for the last 10 years by indulging in and promoting corruption, destroying the economy by neglecting the manufacturing sector and resorting to politics of temporary sops to garner votes.

Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP said that voters in Malkajgiri from where he is contesting for the Lok Sabha have already decided to vote against the Congress.

Dr. JP described Mr. Narendra Modi as a genuine leader who rose from the ranks. It is a matter of pride for Indian democracy that we have today a leader whose credentials have nothing to do with dynasty, caste or religion, or money power.

Dr. JP recalled that he had told Mr. Narendra Modi at Begumpet airport during his Hyderabad visit that India has to create at least 10 million jobs a year as 15 million people are entering the workforce every year. As of now, India is providing jobs to just to 10 to 15 percent of people entering the workforce.

Dr. JP said India has still a window of opportunity to replace China as the workshop of the world. China is exiting from low-value manufacturing with a decline in working age population and rising wages. India has vast human resources and the requisite technology to become a manufacturing giant and provide jobs.

Dr. JP said that availability of electricity is a basic requisite for manufacturing to flourish. It is a shame that thousands of small and micro industries have been shut down in Hyderabad and surroundings for want of power. No other country in the world has the dubious distinction of having the largest number of diesel generators as India has.

Referring to the importance of providing basic infrastructure facilities, Dr. JP referred to the awful conditions in which more than a lakh people in Jawaharnagar and surroundings are living. As many as 2000 truckloads of nearly 4000 tons of garbage collected daily in Hyderabad city is dumped at 350-acre site in Jawaharnagar, which forms part of Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency. The waste is dumped directly without any processing or treatment in open landfills. As a result, land, air and water in a radius of 15 km have been polluted. The stink that emanates from the dumping yard is unbearable.

Dr. JP pledged to end the menace by getting the entire landfill capped and sealed with a suitable impervious cover and a park being developed. Meanwhile, he would strive to stop further dumping of municipal waste and provide safe drinking water to locals. Multiple landfill sites of smaller extent will be identified all around GHMC area for waste disposal.

Replying to a question on the CBI being asked to go into acquisition of property by TRS President K. Chandrasekhara Rao and others, Dr. JP said the Loksatta always maintained that an inquiry is warranted if the allegations are specific. The Loksatta would like cases of corruption to be promptly probed, the accused tried in special courts and deterrent punishment, including confiscation of the entire property of the guilty, be awarded. In cases of collusive corruption, the punishment should be harsher and the burden of being innocent should be shifted to the accused.

Loksatta Party Treasurer P. Bhaskara Rao took part in the media conference.

  1. Take your call to the logical extreme by withdrawing all your candidates in favor of NDA. For starters, you can support Mallareddy.

  2. "burden of being innocent should be shifted to the accused"

This is illegal and against all established norms. Looks like the self proclaimed intellectual is unaware of even basic legal principles.
