  1. We the people, especially our youth, should at the earliest realize that the bright future of our state and country lies not in Sonia/Rahul’s or Narendra Modi’s centralized model, but in the decentralized, power to people model of Lok Satta Party mainly through its empowered & accountable village panchayats, ward, city and district governments.

As early as in 1998, both the then NDA Prime Minister A, B. Vajypayee and Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi had shared the dais at a panchayat raj sammelan and committed themselves to empowering local governments. Their words did not yet translate into action. Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy spoke the same words in 2003-04 in Andhra Pradesh. They too betrayed the people. Again in the coming 2014 elections, their parties are offering the same old centralized model of governance more clourfully. We should not allow their deceptions anymore. A.P people should make local empowerment the main demand in the coming local elections itself. Transfer of powers mentioned in the 11th and 12th schedules of the Constitution to local governments should be mandatory. The States shall be stripped of their discretionary powers. MPs and State legislators should have no role to play in local governments. There shall be an elected district council representing both rural and urban areas. The District Collector shall be made Secretary of the district council.
