Dharma is definitely going to triumph over money in the defining contest for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat, asserted Loksatta Party national President and party candidate Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan.
Malkajigiri is becoming the staging ground for cleansing the present corrupt political and electoral system, Dr. JP told a media conference.
Dr. JP said people in the constituency, transcending their affiliations to caste and religion, region and language are determined to vote for a leader of integrity, maturity and vision.
Dr. JP said that people have showered their love and affection in abundance, come forward to work as volunteers unmindful of scorching heat and contributed their mite for his campaign.
He could boldly affirm that he alone has carried on his campaign legally, constitutionally and democratically and asked whether any other candidate could make such a claim.
Dr. JP pledged himself to work for ensuring a bright future for the people of Malkajgiri, the twin cities, the two States and the entire country. He recalled that the Loksatta had laid a strong foundation for the development of the two emerging States by getting a number of provisions incorporated in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill and the Prime Minister’s statement.
Dr. JP said that at a time people are asking for quality education, healthcare, livelihood and employment opportunities, and uninterrupted power supply, short-sighted leaders are trying to garner their votes by offering sops and inducements. People would have a bright future only when they elect competent and honest candidates who work for them, and not those who work for themselves and their children. The elections are about the future of voters and not of their leaders. The vote is a powerful weapon in the hands of people. They should use the freedom they have to shape their destiny by choosing right candidates.
Dr. JP pointed out that the Loksatta decided to support BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi because he has stood for reviving the economy, creating jobs, preserving the country’s unity and ensuring good governance. The Loksatta will support all BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha seats except those who seek to perpetuate dynasty or have criminal antecedents.
In to a reply to a question, Dr. JP said he would strive for improving drinking water, drainage and sewerage facilities in Hyderabad by spending Rs.7000 crore over the next three years. He would bring relief and solace to people living in Jawaharnagar and surroundings who are undergoing immense suffering because of the dumping of untreated garbage in a large landfill there. He would pursue the party’s demand for a per capita grant of Rs.1000 to every ward so that immediate and pressing needs of local people could be met by elected representatives. He would ensure that the right to Government services becomes a reality and Hyderabad is rid of power shortages. He would see to it that the National Urban Health Mission is rolled out. He would work for creation of a crore of jobs every year in the manufacturing sector for the next ten years.
State Loksatta Party President Katari Srinivasa Rao and party leaders Bandaru Ramamohan Rao and V. Vijayender Reddy took part in the media conference.

Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Naarayan today appealed to voters to realize that those who seek to buy their votes with money and liquor are planning to loot the Rs.5.5 lakh the State Government spends on every family for five years.
Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP said that those who spend crores of rupees in elections are setting their eyes on making many times more than their investment through bagging contracts or seeking commissions or land encroachments or brokering deals.
Dr. JP said that Andhra Pradesh has earned dubious distinction by accounting for Rs.124 crore of the total Rs.225 crore and 4.4 lakh liters of the total 5.6 lakh liters of liquor seized all over the country. One out of every five candidates in the electoral race for the Assembly is facing some criminal case or other and one out of every seven candidates, a case of murder or rape.
Dr. JP said that people should not view elections as a 20-20 cricket match but as an exercise that has a bearing on their future. On a visit to a slum at Balamrai in Secunderabad Cantonment constituency this morning, a woman told him that she threw away the cooked rice as it was unfit to consume. “Have we asked you to supply such rotten rice at one rupee a kg?” The 6th and 7th class children on whom they spend Rs.500 to Rs.600 a month on fees cannot do a simple division. The residents asked whether the Government cannot ensure even power supply.
Politics, said Dr. JP, should bring about a change in people’s lives and not in one leader or party being replaced by another. It is possible only when the Government ensures quality education, healthcare and employment opportunities to all. Touching upon healthcare in the country, Dr. JP said it is distressing that 12000 new TB cases are being reported every day in India although drugs to cure TB have been there for more than five decades.
Unlike other political parties, the Loksatta is focusing on people’s problems and providing concrete solutions.
Dr. JP called upon voters not to take the ensuing elections lightly since they have the potential to change the country’s destiny. They should defer travel, brave the heat and make it a point to vote.
He reiterated that in the fight between dharma and money in Malkajgiri from where he is contesting for the Lok Sabha, people are overwhelmingly standing for dharma.
Mr. Bandaru Ramamohan Rao, Convener of the party’s Telangana Coordination Committee, took part in the media conference.

Loksatta Party national President will campaign for BJP Lok Sabha candidate Bandaru Dattatreya in Secunderabd constituency from 8-30 a.m. to 9-30 a.m. on Sunday, April 27.
He will campaign in Sikh Village, Diamond Point, Karkhana, Hanuman Temple, Tirumalgiri, RTC Colony, Teachers’ Colony and Subash Nagar/Khanajiguda areas in Secunderabad Cantonment constituency from 10-00 a.m.to 1-00 p.m.
He will campaign in Pochampally, Medchal Town, Dabilpur, Nuthankal, Srirangavaram and Poodur in Medchal constituency from 4-00 p.m. to 10-00 p.m.
Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan today termed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s promise to waive farmers’ bank loans of up to Rs. two lakh as irresponsible.
Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP wanted to know whether the loan waiver would be applicable to farmers in both the emerging States. Who would foot the bills – the Center or the States? Had any homework been done on the implications? Had the Reserve Bank of India been consulted?
Dr. JP asked who had given the authority to the Congress to announce a decision that disrupts the economy. What would happen if the RBI imposes a freeze on grant of bank loans to people in the State taking exception to the Government’s credit indiscipline?
Dr. JP said he had earlier voiced concern over regional parties making wild promises unmindful of their deleterious consequences. Now even a national party like the Congress has placed its interests above those of the country.
Farmers, Dr. JP said, should definitely be extended all assistance in the form of improved seeds and modern technology. They should be ensured remunerative prices for their produce. The Loksatta had enabled farmers to gain Rs.3600 crore during 2011 by successfully agitating for removal of the illegal ban on inter-State food grain movement. The Loksatta again was responsible for getting the ban on export of food grains to other countries as a result of which farmers have been receiving higher prices and India has emerged as the No.1 exporter in the world.
The Union Cabinet decision to dissolve the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and re-promulgate President’s rule is a sad commentary on the functioning of the Government of India. That Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy would resign in the wake of the promulgation of the AP Reorganization Bill was an open secret. The Parliament was in session when the CM resigned, and its approval could have been taken for imposition of President’s rule. The Union Government behaved like a tottering child or a somnambulant man.
Now we have presidential rule which is unconstitutional, but without remedy Dr. JP appealed to youth to enlighten voters to vote freely without submitting to inducements or coercion since votes are not counted booth-wise. The EC is bunching EVMs and vote count is known only for a group of booths. Therefore, there is no opportunity for candidates to know how people voted in a particular booth.
Referring to the daily seizure of money and recovery of liquor stored in fields and ponds, and publication of paid news, he asked media to enlighten voters on the pernicious practices and not become a part of the rotten system.
Dr. JP announced he would campaign for Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Secunderabad on Sunday morning in response to a request from him.
State Loksatta Party President Katari Srinivasa Rao read out an open letter to voters by lyricist Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry to support the Loksatta and stand for dharma.
Party leaders Bandaru Ramamohan Rao, V. Vijayender Reddy and Kodandarama Rao took part in the media conference.

Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said today he has decided to extend support to BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi because he is committed to providing jobs to youth by reviving the manufacturing sector and ensuring good governance.
The UPA Government has squandered a golden opportunity given to it for the last 10 years by indulging in and promoting corruption, destroying the economy by neglecting the manufacturing sector and resorting to politics of temporary sops to garner votes.
Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP said that voters in Malkajgiri from where he is contesting for the Lok Sabha have already decided to vote against the Congress.
Dr. JP described Mr. Narendra Modi as a genuine leader who rose from the ranks. It is a matter of pride for Indian democracy that we have today a leader whose credentials have nothing to do with dynasty, caste or religion, or money power.
Dr. JP recalled that he had told Mr. Narendra Modi at Begumpet airport during his Hyderabad visit that India has to create at least 10 million jobs a year as 15 million people are entering the workforce every year. As of now, India is providing jobs to just to 10 to 15 percent of people entering the workforce.
Dr. JP said India has still a window of opportunity to replace China as the workshop of the world. China is exiting from low-value manufacturing with a decline in working age population and rising wages. India has vast human resources and the requisite technology to become a manufacturing giant and provide jobs.
Dr. JP said that availability of electricity is a basic requisite for manufacturing to flourish. It is a shame that thousands of small and micro industries have been shut down in Hyderabad and surroundings for want of power. No other country in the world has the dubious distinction of having the largest number of diesel generators as India has.
Referring to the importance of providing basic infrastructure facilities, Dr. JP referred to the awful conditions in which more than a lakh people in Jawaharnagar and surroundings are living. As many as 2000 truckloads of nearly 4000 tons of garbage collected daily in Hyderabad city is dumped at 350-acre site in Jawaharnagar, which forms part of Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency. The waste is dumped directly without any processing or treatment in open landfills. As a result, land, air and water in a radius of 15 km have been polluted. The stink that emanates from the dumping yard is unbearable.
Dr. JP pledged to end the menace by getting the entire landfill capped and sealed with a suitable impervious cover and a park being developed. Meanwhile, he would strive to stop further dumping of municipal waste and provide safe drinking water to locals. Multiple landfill sites of smaller extent will be identified all around GHMC area for waste disposal.
Replying to a question on the CBI being asked to go into acquisition of property by TRS President K. Chandrasekhara Rao and others, Dr. JP said the Loksatta always maintained that an inquiry is warranted if the allegations are specific. The Loksatta would like cases of corruption to be promptly probed, the accused tried in special courts and deterrent punishment, including confiscation of the entire property of the guilty, be awarded. In cases of collusive corruption, the punishment should be harsher and the burden of being innocent should be shifted to the accused.
Loksatta Party Treasurer P. Bhaskara Rao took part in the media conference.

Loksatta party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan will undertake road shows in L. B. Nagar and Uppal Assembly constituencies on Friday, April 25.
Dr. JP will cover NGOs’ Colony, BN Reddy Colony, Hasthinapuram, Karmanghat Chowrastha and Champapet Chowrastha in L. B. Nagar constituency from 8-00 a.m. to 12-00 noon. Mr. Dosapati Ramu, party candidate in the race, will accompany him.
Dr. JP will visit HMT Nagar, Nacharam, Mallapur, NFC, Ashoknagar, EC Nagar, Charlapally, Modi Constructions and Chakripuram in Uppal constituency from 4-00 p.m. to 9-00 p.m. Mr. K. Venkat Reddy, party candidate in the race, will accompany him.
Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan today suggested that the unfolding titanium mining scam in Andhra Pradesh be viewed as an opportunity to usher in laws to ensure sure and swift punishment to the corrupt.
It may be recalled that the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation has asked the State Crime Investigation Department to “provisionally arrest” Mr. K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, MP and Adviser to Late Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in connection with the mining license scam.
KVP has been named along with five others by a US grand jury for their suspected roles in an $18.5 million scheme to bribe Indian officials for a titanium mining contract in Andhra Pradesh.
Dr. JP said that corruption can be mitigated to a large extent if special courts are constituted to go into allegations against politicians and officials and swift and deterrent punishment, including confiscation of the entire property of the corrupt is awarded. The corrupt should be made to face the prospect of losing power, prestige, property and a long jail term. If such punishments are meted out to people in ten cases in every state per year, corruption could be curbed.
Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP said that under a law enacted in the US in 1977, American companies cannot give bribes to further their business in other countries. Lockheed officials who bribed Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka were jailed under the law. The Japanese Prime Minister had to quit. Celebrated CEO Rajat Gupta of Indian origin was sentenced to a jail term and hefty fine for abetting insider trading in shares. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to a 14-year jail term for seeking election campaign funds for nominating a senator. An Indian doctor couple had to part with all properties and undergo a jail term for defrauding the American healthcare system.
Dr. JP also demanded that the Union Government bring back nearly $500 billion illegally stashed abroad by Indians on a war footing and prevent stashing of nearly $80 billion a year. Such a measure will come in handy to tackle current account deficit problems and funding the sorely needed infrastructure in the country.
Dr. JP recalled that he had submitted a Bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2009 itself to the then Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. They had been trading allegations of corruption against each other in the Assembly. Once he took the initiative, the two sparring parties entered into an unwritten truce and kept quiet subsequently. It is time the parties stopped enacting such dramas, Dr. JP said.
Dr. JP called for allotment of scarce natural resources like spectrum, iron ore and coal mines on transparent, competitive bidding to ward off corruption. The Supreme Court cancelled the illegally awarded 122 2-G spectrum licenses on a petition filed by the Loksatta and helped the Government raise more than Rs.50000 crore in re-auction of a part of spectrum.
Dr. JP also underlined the need for replacing the first-past-the post electoral system by proportional representation to curb corruption. How can the political system remain clean if candidates are ready to cough up Rs.50 crore to get the party ticket and spend Rs.100 crore to get elected. When politics thus becomes business, corruption is inevitable.
Dr. JP said that voters in Malkajgiri from where he is contesting for the Lok Sabha are fed up with the business of politics and are coming forward in larger numbers day by day to support him. He has no doubt that dharma will triumph over money in Malkajgiri.
Dr. JP conveyed his condolences to the family of Mrs. Sobha Nagireddy, MLA, who died in a tragic road accident. Transcending party differences, she maintained cordial relations with everyone, he recalled.
Loksatta Party leaders Bandaru Ramamohan Rao, V. Vijayender Reddy, Panduranga Rao and Mohd. Ghouse took part in the media conference.

Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan today described the contest for Malkajigiri Lok Sabha seat as a fight between dharma and money and exuded confidence of dharma winning over money in the defining election.
Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP who is contesting the seat, said he has heard rumors of some candidates spending up to Rs.150 crore each in the constituency and added that politics has come to mean mere money.
It is, therefore, no surprise that forces which are bent upon continuing the status quo are mortally afraid of the Loksatta Party which is seeking votes on the plank of changing the nature of politics and governance without offering any inducements to voters.
Referring to movie star Pavan Kalyan’s decision to support the TDP candidate in Maljigiri although he had pledged to campaign for the Loksatta earlier, Dr. JP said he could understand the pressures and influences Pavan was subjected to and the agonizing dilemma he had to contend with. Pavan, he recalled, had originally thought of contesting from Malkajgiri. but dropped his idea later deeming him (Dr. JP) as the right candidate. He had openly expressed support and offered to campaign for Dr. JP
Dr. JP said he was moved by Pavan’s gesture. “Pavan is a sincere and guileless person who is burning with a desire for the development of Telugu people and the country. I can understand his compulsions and pressures.”
Within minutes of learning of Pavan’s decision, Dr. JP said, he had sent an SMS to Pavan saying that his decision “will not harm our friendship and mutual regard. I wish you all the very best in your endeavors.”
Dr. JP said Pavan’s decision highlights to what extent traditional political forces are trembling over the threat posed by forces standing for dharma.
Dr. JP underlined that elections are not about the future of political parties or their candidates but are about the future of people exercising their franchise. Elections should not be viewed as an exercise to change players but as a means to transform the system. The real hero in the elections is the ordinary voter and not the contesting candidates.
Dr. JP explained that he is in the field with a clear-cut agenda. He will fight for spending about Rs.7000 crore on improving drinking water, drainage and sewerage facilities in Hyderabad. He will work for ensuring a per capita grant of Rs.1000 to every ward in the city so that elected people’s representatives can attend to people’s pressing problems. Citizens should be entitled to time-bound Government services. Public transport should be improved with Metro Rail, MMTS, and RTC services being brought under a single agency. There should be uninterrupted power supply in Hyderabad.
Dr. JP said he would work for ensuring that the Government of India fulfills the promises it had made to the two emerging States on the eve of bifurcation. He will work for creation of one crore jobs a year in the manufacturing sector. He will strive for replacement of the first-past-the-post system by proportional representation so that the best and the brightest can enter legislative bodies.
State Loksatta Party President Katari Srinivasa Rao and party leaders P. Bhaskara Rao and Narra Sridhar took part in the media conference.

The Loksatta Party today challenged the TRS for a debate on which party has rendered greater service to Hyderabad.
Addressing a media conference, State Loksatta Party President Katari Srinivasa Rao said that Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan had launched the Loksatta movement long before Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao founded the TRS and has been fighting for people-centered politics. As legislator representing Kukatpally, Dr. JP has been responsible for implementation of development works worth a record Rs.1550 crore in the last five years. KCR is pursuing atrocious politics by asking why Dr. JP should contest from Malkajgiri to the Lok Sabha.
Katari challenged KCR to explain what he has done for his constituency or Hyderabad or for Telangana in the last five years as a Member of Parliament. Dr. JP has enabled Telangana farmers to get a higher price for their produce by getting curbs on inter-State trade lifted and exports to other countries permitted. In contrast, KCR has not raised his voice in Parliament even once on any issue the Telangana people faced.
Katari explained that Dr. JP has chosen to contest from Malkajgiri to spread the democratic revolution he initiated in Kukatpally by earning people’s mandate without resort to distribution of money or liquor. AAP achieved such a change in Delhi where the per capita income is high. Since the per capita income in Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency is high and since Kukatpally forms part of it, Dr. JP chose to contest from it. Besides strengthening new politics, Dr. JP plans to strive for improving infrastructure in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs.7000 crore and ensure that the Government of India fulfils all the promises it made on the eve of the State’s bifurcation. In contrast, KCR is fuelling hatred with an eye on his family coming into power.
Katari accused KCR of adopting double standards in maintaining that the so-called settlers can live in Hyderabad but have no right for representation in legislative bodies. Every Indian has the right to live and work and contest elections from anywhere. That was why a Bengali, Harindranath Chattopadhyay, was elected to Parliament from Vijayawada, P. V. Narasimha Rao from Nandyal and Mrs Indira Gandhi from Medak. KCR is harming the interests of Hyderabad and Telangana people by questioning Dr. JP’s credentials to contest from Malkajgiri even as he claims to develop Hyderabad into a world-class city. Haunted perhaps by the fear of a setback to his party in elections, KCR is trying to garner votes by stoking hatred among people.
Katari also took serious exception to sociologist Kancha Ilaiah faulting sections of media for giving publicity to Dr. JP who in his opinion did little for minorities and Dalits. Mr. Ilaiah should say which party other than the Loksatta could contest elections without resort to use of black money and liquor. Public interest should be the touchstone for both media and politics. If media does not give importance to Dr. JP who in his 34 years of public life has done yeoman service to the country by facilitating a number of basic reforms it will be committing a mistake. Mr. Ilaiah should appreciate that it is the Loksatta which has made quality education, a key ingredient for the development of minorities and Dalits-- the center point of its politics. Dr. JP has got 74 additional classrooms constructed and striven for implementation of the SC and ST plan in Kukatpally constituency. Right since its inception, the Loksatta has been fighting for equal growth opportunities to all.
Katari said it is regrettable that Mr. Ilaiah tried to besmirch the Loksatta even as he pledges support to a party that seeks to perpetuate politics of dynasty, corruption and poverty.
Mr. Siramani Naresh of the party’s manifesto committee took part in the media conference.
Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan will conduct an extensive road show in Shamirpet mandal of Medchal constituency from 3-00 p.m. to 10-00 p.m. on Monday, April 21.
He will cover Thumukunta village bus stop, Shamirpet party office, Aliyabad bus stop, Lalgadi Malakpet main road, Jaggamguda bus stop, Keshavaram, Moodu Chintalapalli and Thurkapalli villages.

Elect Dr. JP, the best candidate, to Parliament - Former Top Police official’s appeal to Malkajgiri voters
The Malkjgiri Lok Sabha constituency, the biggest in the entire country, now gets the golden opportunity to stand as an example for good politics in the country. I appeal to Malkajigiri voters to elect Loksattta Party candidate Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan to Parliament so that he can work for the development of Hyderabad city and the two Telugu speaking States, creation of employment opportunities for youth and a set a direction for the country at this crucial time.
I had the privilege of working as Director General of ‘Sashastra Seema Bal’, the second largest paramilitary force with one lakh personnel, Commissioner of the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Director of Andhra Pradesh Police Academy, Additional Director General of CRPF, Managing Director of the RTC and earning the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1991 and the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service in 1998.
I was Superintendent of Police of Prakasam district when Dr. JP was its Collector. If Prakasam district which stood at the 23rd place then in development now figures among the top five in the State, the credit goes to the direction set by Dr. JP then. When we see leaders minting thousands of crores in the name of irrigation projects these days, Dr. JP’s endeavours in the irrigation field in Prakasam district those days continue to be a matter of amazement. Dr. JP helped irrigate about two lakh acres at a cost of Rs.2000 per acre in partnership with farmers. There have been no instances of so much land being irrigated at such a low cost in the country 150 years after Sir Arthur Cotton. I have been a keen observer of Dr. JP’s work since then. He has been fighting indefatigably for ushering in good politics and basic reforms so that people can hold their head high and lead decent lives.
If people in Kukatpally constituency hailing from different regions are maintaining fraternal relations at a time when political parties are fanning animosities among people on the issue of the State’s bifurcation it is simply because Dr. JP has been its legislator. By respecting all irrespective of their party affiliations, he has enabled all of them to render yeoman service. Although he has had the distinction of promoting all-round development in Kukatpally by safeguarding peace and amity and without giving scope for corruption, he has refrained from pomp and publicity. As a legislator, he has acted to take care of the interests of all Telugu people.
Being in public life for the last 34 years, Dr. JP has putting in extraordinary efforts in his quest to ensure that every child gets growth opprotunities without any discrimination. Dr. JP has enhanced the image of the State Legislative Assembly for the last five yeas and stood as a beacon for good politics. By electing him to Parliament transcending their caste, religion, region and party considerations, Malkajgiri voters should set an example to the entire country for good politics.
Vote for the whistle symbol and elect Dr. JP, as he will enable all of us to win.
MV Krishna Rao
